Why choose Alize Mohair Classic?
  • Mohair-Wool Blend: Mohair Classic mixes 25% mohair and 24% wool with 51% acrylic at 200 m per 100 g, an aran-weight yarn with a soft halo for 5–7 mm needles.
  • Quick, Airy Knitting: It knits at about 18 stitches per 10 cm, so sweaters and hats grow fast and the fuzz softens small tension wobbles; plan carefully, though, because mohair grabs when you rip back.
  • Warm Winter Layers: The fabric is light for its warmth and blooms after the first gentle wash, so dry it flat. Very sensitive skin may feel a slight prickle, so wear it over a shirt.
Description

Alize Mohair Classic – Substantial Fluff for Cozy Winter Knits

Alize Mohair Classic is the yarn of choice when you want the luxurious halo of mohair but need a yarn with more body and speed. Unlike gossamer-thin mohair blends, this yarn has a substantial worsted weight structure. It combines the fluffy texture of mohair, the warmth of wool, and the stability of acrylic to create garments that look rich, feel warm, and knit up surprisingly fast.

💡 Tip: Because of its long fibers, this yarn is forgiving of uneven tension. It is perfect for knitting trendy, oversized cardigans or chunky winter hats where you want a "hairy" texture without using multiple strands.

Why choose this classic mohair blend?

  • Instant Volume: The yarn creates a thick, airy fabric that fills space beautifully. It’s ideal for "statement pieces" like long coats or heavy scarves that need to look impressive but remain light to wear.
  • Thermal Insulation: The combination of mohair and wool traps body heat efficiently, making this one of the warmest options for deep winter days.
  • Durability: The acrylic core provides strength and shape retention, ensuring your fluffy garments don't sag or lose their structure over time.

TIPS & TRICKS

Pro Tip: Mohair fibers lock together, so frogging is slow and can felt the strand. Thread a lifeline every few centimeters, check your work often, and use slick metal needles so the fuzzy yarn slides instead of sticking. Wash the finished piece once before judging the halo.

About Product

How many balls of Alize Mohair Classic for a sweater?

An adult sweater usually takes about 5–7 balls. Worsted and aran-weight pullovers in average sizes typically need 900–1,300 m, and each 100 g ball of Mohair Classic holds 200 m, so divide the pattern total by 200 and round up. Oversized cardigans and long coats need more, so check the metres in your pattern and keep all balls from one dye lot.

Can you crochet with Alize Mohair Classic?

Yes, and the label suggests a 3–4 mm hook. The mohair halo softens stitch outlines, so simple stitches, granny squares and open mesh look best, while detailed textures disappear into the fuzz. A smooth hook helps the fuzzy strand glide. Work a test swatch first to see how the halo looks at your tension before starting a large piece.

How do I wash Alize Mohair Classic?

Hand wash it gently in cool water with a wool detergent, or use a wool cycle only if the care symbols on your ball band allow it. With 25% mohair and 24% wool, hot water and rubbing can felt the fibres. Squeeze the water out in a towel without wringing, then dry flat. Once dry, a soft brush lifts the halo again.

Alize Mohair Classic or Kid Royal 50: which should I use?

Use Mohair Classic on its own for fuzzy worsted-weight garments, and Alize Kid Royal 50 when you want a fine halo carried together with another yarn. Mohair Classic blends 51% acrylic, 25% mohair and 24% wool at 200 m per 100 g, while Kid Royal 50 is a lace-weight 62% kid mohair and 38% polyamide. Classic builds body quickly; Kid Royal adds airy layers.
