Why choose DROPS Lima?
  • Wool-Alpaca DK Blend: DROPS Lima is a 4-strand DK yarn of 65% wool and 35% superfine alpaca, with 100 m per 50 g. The fibers are untreated, keeping wool's natural spring alongside alpaca's softness and warmth.
  • Bouncy, Split-Free Knitting: Reviewers find it bouncy, with no splitting or drag on 4 mm needles at 21 stitches per 10 cm. Stitches stay crisp for cables, ribbing and stranded Nordic colorwork knitted at a firm tension.
  • Durable Winter Sweaters: Sweaters, hats and mittens keep their shape and wear well, with a gentle alpaca halo. Lima is not superwash: hand wash at max 30°C, dry flat and avoid rubbing, or it can felt.
Description

DROPS Lima – Everyday Wool & Alpaca Warmth

DROPS Lima is the dependable everyday yarn for the cold season: sweaters, cardigans, hats, mittens and scarves that get worn on repeat. Peruvian highland wool gives structure and excellent stitch definition, while superfine alpaca adds a soft, warm touch. At a classic DK gauge on 4 mm needles, it works with a huge range of garment patterns — including the extensive free DROPS pattern library.

Why choose DROPS Lima?

  • Warm Yet Light: The wool–alpaca blend insulates beautifully without bulk — ideal for Baltic winters.
  • Crisp Stitch Definition: Cables, ribbing and textured patterns stand out clearly.
  • Uni & Mix Shades: Choose clean uni colours or subtly heathered mix shades for a rustic, lively fabric.

TIPS & TRICKS

Care Tip: Lima is untreated wool, so heat plus agitation can felt it. Soak in lukewarm water with wool wash, press the water out in a towel instead of wringing, and dry flat. For kids' sweaters that must go in the machine, knit the same pattern in DROPS Merino Extra Fine, also yarn group B.

About Product

How many balls of DROPS Lima for a sweater?

An adult sweater in size M usually takes 11–14 balls. DK pullovers typically need 1,100–1,400 m, and each 50 g ball holds 100 m, so 1,100–1,400 m ÷ 100 m gives 11–14 balls. A hat needs about 1–2 balls and a pair of adult mittens about 2.

Is DROPS Lima itchy?

Most people find it soft enough for sweaters, though it is not as smooth as pure merino: the wool is Peruvian highland wool, softened by 35% alpaca. If wool tends to bother your neck, test a swatch first, or choose an extra fine merino such as YarnArt Imperial Merino for close-fitting collars.

Can DROPS Lima be felted on purpose?

Yes, because DROPS Lima is not superwash treated, it can be felted deliberately. For felted slippers or bags, knit loosely on a larger needle than usual and felt in a warm machine wash. Results vary between machines, so felt a test swatch first and measure how much it shrinks.

What needle size for DROPS Lima?

4 mm is the standard needle for DROPS Lima, giving 21 stitches and 28 rows per 10 cm. Go down to 3–3.5 mm for mittens and hats that need a denser, more wind-resistant fabric, and up to 4.5 mm for a drapier shawl or loose cardigan. Swatch to confirm.
