Why choose YarnArt Angora Star?
  • Fine Wool-Blend Halo: Angora Star blends 80% acrylic with 20% wool into a fine, lightly fuzzy yarn with 500 m per 100 g ball, recommended for 4 mm needles or a 5 mm hook. It contains no angora.
  • Light, Easy Knitting: Knitters find it light and easy to work, and it unravels cleanly despite the fuzz. The thin strand blooms into fabric of medium thickness and holds its shape well after blocking.
  • Openwork, Shawls, Layers: Use it for lace jumpers, shawls, cardigans and children's blankets, or as a second strand to add halo. Some feel a slight prickle before the first wash; a cardigan worn over a blouse avoids that.
Description

YarnArt Angora Star – Airy Warmth with a Gentle Halo

YarnArt Angora Star allows you to create sophisticated, lightweight garments that offer surprising warmth. This yarn is designed to mimic the fluffy "halo" effect of traditional mohair but is crafted from a durable wool and acrylic blend. It is the go-to choice for knitting airy shawls, delicate stoles, and feminine cardigans that drape beautifully without feeling heavy on the shoulders.

💡 Mix & Match: Want the same fluffy texture but with exciting color transitions? Check out the variegated version, Alize Angora Gold Batik, which shares a similar weight and feel.

Why choose this fluffy wool blend?

  • Impressive Yardage: This is an incredibly economical choice—a single 100g ball contains 500 meters (547 yds). You typically need just one or two balls to create a generously sized shawl.
  • Versatile Styling: While excellent for lace knitting on larger needles to create openwork, it can also be held double or combined with a smooth yarn to add a fuzzy, warm texture to winter sweaters.
  • Soft & Durable: The high acrylic content ensures the garment holds its shape and resists wear, while the wool provides natural warmth and that signature fuzzy look.

TIPS & TRICKS

Yardage Tip: One knitter's women's openwork jumper took just over three balls on 3 mm needles. Held double, Angora Star still makes a light sweater; plan for roughly twice the meters. Hand wash cool and dry flat to keep the halo even.

About Product

Is YarnArt Angora Star real angora wool?

No. The name refers to the soft, fuzzy look rather than the fibre: Angora Star is 80% acrylic and 20% wool, with no rabbit angora. That makes it sturdier and easier to care for than pure angora. If you want a true animal-fibre halo, a kid mohair such as Alize Kid Royal 50 gives that effect.

What is the difference between Angora Star and Angora Active?

Colour is the main difference. Angora Star comes in 51 solid shades, while YarnArt Angora Active is dyed in long gradient sections across 21 colourways. They share the same 80% acrylic, 20% wool blend and 500 m per 100 g, so you can use Star for a plain body or stripes alongside an Active yoke.

What needle size for YarnArt Angora Star?

The label gives 4–5 mm. Use 4 mm for jumpers and cardigans that need some body, and 5 mm or larger for lace shawls and stoles: a fine fuzzy yarn on bigger needles opens into an airy fabric where the halo fills the gaps. Knit a swatch on both sizes and wash it before measuring.

How many balls of Angora Star for a shawl?

One to two balls covers most shawls. Each 100 g ball holds 500 m, enough for a long lacy scarf or a shawlette on its own. A generously sized triangular shawl in fingering weight typically needs 600–900 m, so plan on two balls from the same dye lot.
