Is Alize Alpaca Royal New itchy?

Most people find it soft, with only a slightly hairy surface from the alpaca. The blend is 55% acrylic, 30% wool and 15% alpaca, so it is gentler than pure wool, but very sensitive skin may still notice the wool. A washed swatch is the best test, since alpaca blends usually relax and soften a little after their first wash.

How many balls of Alpaca Royal New for an adult sweater?

Plan on 4–6 balls for most adult sweaters. A worsted-weight adult pullover typically uses 1,000–1,500 m depending on size, length and cables, and each 100 g ball holds 250 m, so 1,500 ÷ 250 = 6. A hat usually needs one ball and a long scarf two. Cables and textured stitches use noticeably more yarn than stockinette.

Alpaca Royal New vs Lanagold Classic: which should I choose?

Pick Alpaca Royal New for a softer, slightly fuzzy fabric and Alize Lanagold Classic for smoother, crisper stitches. Both are worsted weight and work on 4–5 mm needles. Lanagold Classic has 49% wool and 240 m per 100 g; Alpaca Royal New has 30% wool plus 15% alpaca and 250 m, so one can usually replace the other after a gauge swatch.

Does Alize Alpaca Royal New pill or shed?

Expect a little loose fiber at first and some light pilling where a garment rubs, such as underarms and cuffs, which is normal for hairy acrylic-wool blends. A fabric shaver or sweater comb tidies it quickly. Knitting at the firmer end of the 4–5 mm needle range gives a denser fabric that pills less over time.
